Recent Work (allow a few moments to load)

A few of the recent projects I’ve been working on. Been a pretty amazing couple of years: Finished my work in Japan, took two trips around the world by ship working for Peace Boat, moved back to the U.S., started working for Duke and a bunch of great non-profits in the area.

DOCUMENTARY/FUNDRAISING

Shot this interview with Pierce Freelon (of The Beast, look for them at Hopscotch) and Apple Juice Kid for their indiegogo campaign, then cut it together with some great footage from Jon Kasbe and some more great footage from CulturesOfResistance.Org.

Succesfully funded at over $5k.

Created this video for Cocoa Cinnamon’s Kickstarter campaign. (Successfully funded at over $30,000). They are a great team to work with, and collaborating to find the best way to tell the story of their move from bicycle coffee stand to full-grown business was one of my favorite projects of the past couple years.

——

Shot while as the onboard reporter for Peace Boat, a Japanese NGO that charters a 1,500 passenger capacity ship to unite activists and educators around the world.
While working for Peace Boat, I circled the globe twice, shot two more micro-docs like this one, and visited more than 25 countries.

PROJECTS at DUKE:

My favorite aspect of my job at Duke: The chance to assemble quick responses to current events, like this video shot at the two-month anniversary of the Occupy  movement.

24 hours from shooting to uploading, and the end result was featured on featured on  TheNation.com’s education blog.

COLLABORATIONS with DIRECTOR JASON HO:

Jason Ho is a great filmmaker, and we collaborate whenever geography allows us

ROLE: Collaborating on Concept Development / Assistant Director / Various

Sometimes in Durham, NC:

And sometimes in Minnesota:

Incidentally, in addition to having an Asst. Director role on that last one, I’m the dude who gets slapped in the face by the lady with the shaved head.

Personal Projects:

Aside from all that, quick little tricks like this keep my creativity flowing…

Been a good 8 months back in America.

Peace Boat in Tahiti: Food and Independence (by Kid Ethnic (aka Saleem))

Growing Independence: Farming in Tahiti

Directed and Edited by Saleem Reshamwala

Shot on location in Tahiti.

As the ship reporter for Peace Boat’s 71st Voyage, I wrote articles, shot photos, and directed videos both at sea and in ports. The ship visited 18 countries and passed through both the Panama and Suez canals. We conducted interviews in English, Spanish and Japanese.

After the tour featured above, the guest speaker gave me an avocado the size of a Nerf football. It was delicious.

Science Museum of Minnesota - Hire Us

Mr. Jason Ho and I just finished up a proposal bid for the Science Museum of Minnesota.

Jason (a director who writes as Dream Nineteen) asks me to bang out a script, I bang out a script. I ask him to hold a rabbit in a video, and he holds a rabbit in a video. And the world is fun and good.

Edited by Jason Ho, written by me, filmed by both of us.

Where Baghdad At!? How to find Jordan, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan on a Map (by kidethnic)

The challenge: Make a 1 minute video that makes the location of Baghdad unforgettable.

Featured on the blog of the Heath Brothers, best-selling authors of Made to Stick and Switch.

Over 3,000 views on YouTube, and 1,500 views on SchoolTube. Pretty good for a video that’s basically a map and a set of markers.
